Are There Vitamins for Hair Loss In Women?


A lot of women may be interested in vitamins for hair loss. This is especially since surgical procedures are expensive and vitamins may seem a more attractive option than taking artificially made medicines. Manufacturers of natural solutions know this and will specifically market their products as containing nourishing hair vitamins. The question is whether there really are vitamins for hair loss.

Modern research has given a lot of women reason to hope. Vitamin B6 in particular has been discovered to be a promising hair vitamin. It does not however, naturally occur in the body. Normally we get our share of the vitamin through foods like peanuts, cereals, egg yolk, bananas and tomatoes. Obviously though we may not always be able to eat these foods every day. Some of them, like nuts, may also not be recommended for some people due to allergies.

It is because some of us may be deficient in vitamin B6 that we may have to take supplements. Some topical hair products may also claim to have the vitamin to help revitalize the hair. What exactly does this vitamin do for the hair?


Researchers are not absolutely certain. There are however a couple of theories that partly support labeling Vitamin B6 as vitamins for hair loss. For one the vitamin is believed to play a role in the production of healthy blood cells which in turn help transport essential nutrients and oxygen to hair follicles and hair cells. The vitamin also helps generate melanin which is what gives hair its color. Aside from these, it has also been suggested that the vitamin is able to bind to hormone receptors in the scalp, thereby limiting the influence of hormones in hair loss.

As mentioned though, there is no absolute guarantee that vitamin B6 can cure or even just limit hair loss. Still, no health practitioner has ever advised against taking vitamins unless they are taken in excess. In other words, do use moderate amounts of vitamin B6 because it may do you good.

It is however, important for females to be especially suspicious of hair loss products. Women’s bodies and hair loss conditions differ greatly from those of men. Taking the wrong supplements and herbal remedies, thinking that they are rich in vitamins may not always be good for you. Some substances may create more harmful bodily or hormonal reactions. This is why herbs like saw palmetto and black cohosh are not always recommended for women seeking a natural solution for hair loss.
